Absolutely if you filed for NSFAS in 2021 or earlier years and your request for funding was denied, but you still want funds for 2023, you may re apply provided they fit the financial conditions.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme is a public entity under the sector of higher education and management. NASFAS provides financial help through study scholarships to deserving students at TVET colleges and public universities.

The stipend covers registration, education, and reimbursements for books, accommodations, food, and personal care.

Who qualifies for funding?

All South African citizens
All SASSA grant receipts
Those applicants whose combined household income is not more than RS 350,000 per annum
Persons with disabilities isn’t more than 600,000 per annum.

It is critical that students submit proper ID numbers, names, and surnames as they appear on their ID papers during the registration process.

How can I apply for the NSFAS Bursary Application in 2023?

Step one: Navigate to www.nsfas.org.za and choose the “myNSFAS” option.
Step two: Register for a myNSFAS profile.
Step three: Select the “Apply” option and fill out the areas on the screen that appear.
Step four: Upload any necessary supplementary papers.
Step five: Press the ‘Submit’ button.

Required documents for NSFAS

In order to finish your NSFAS application, you must possess the following items:

You have your own contact information along with an email address.
A copy of your identification or birth certificate.
Identification copies of parents, guardians, or spouses (or death document, if appropriate).
Where applicable, a marriage certificate.
Your evidence of income or IRP5 for the previous year (if applicable).
evidence of income from your parents, guardians, or spouse; if you are a SASSA grant beneficiary, no evidence of income is necessary.
Where applicable, a court order.
Applicants with disabilities must present an executed Disability Annexation A Application.
A Vulnerable Child Acknowledgement and authorization form must be completed and signed by an applicant who has been identified as a child who is vulnerable by the State’s Department of Social Affairs.

How long does NSFAS fund you?

If you meet a financial test, NSFAS will be able to help you for an aggregate of five years, depending on how much funding is available in each year. If you change courses often while taking a minimum of five years to finish your certification, you will be required to pay for yourselves until you qualify.

Eligibility

FINANCIAL ELIGIBILITY

All South american citizens (No age limit)
Every receipt of SASSA grant
Those applicants whose combined household income must not be more than 350,000 annum
Students who started studying before 2018 whose household income is not more than 122,000 annum

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for NSFAS, the following are the requirements:

The student must have received confirmation of public into higher education institution for an approved funded qualification
Returning students must register for the relevant academic year and satisfy the minimum progression requirement.

Who should not apply for NSFAS?

NSFAS situation: disqualified for NSFAS support, but eligible for other bursaries

An additional bursary is offered to the candidate. You will not be eligible for NSFAS if you get other kinds of financial help.

The NSFAS application for funding for the 2023 academic year opened on September 28, 2023, and will close on January 31, 2023.

What does the bursary cover?

Balance
Fines
Doctors fees
Breakage cost and so on.

Online applications

Applicants are able to sign up via the internet on a smartphone, a desktop computer, or by visiting application centers.

Go to www.nsfas.org.za and register for a myNSFAS profile.
Checking the box to enable NSFAS to validate your information takes the place of the permission form.
Don’t forget to provide a copy of the two sides of the photo identification card.
Your username will be your email address.
Choose a password and save it somewhere you can locate it if you forget it again.
After you’ve created a username and password, log in and go to the Apply tab:
Fill out your personal information and submit any supporting papers. It should be noted that a significant amount of what is provided will be pre-populated automatically as the NSFAS network connects the individual’s ID to data at the Social Development Departments.
