Choosing Your Modules at Unisa: Guidelines and Considerations
The qualification for UNISA is meticulously crafted with distinct prerequisites, which entail the successful completion of a specific quantity of the credits for your NQF within a specified timeframe. Meeting these criteria is essential for becoming eligible for graduation.
In the case of co-requisite modules, Module A is a mandatory requirement for Module B. Should you plan to enroll in Module B but have not yet cleared Module A, you are required to register for both Module A and Module B simultaneously. It is crucial to understand that once you’ve registered for Module A, you cannot cancel its registration unless Module B is canceled as well.
For prerequisite modules, you must successfully pass Module A before being eligible to register for Module B. Meeting pre-requisite requirements is crucial for accessing higher-level modules.
Unisa sets a limit on the number of credits/modules you can register for in a single academic year or semester. The maximum number of credits is 60 credits per month per 120 credits per year.
This limitation does not include supplementary or aegrotat examinations from previous semesters. Additionally, modules taken for non-degree/non-diploma purposes are also counted towards the maximum allowed credits.
As you plan your module registration, it’s essential to make a note of the module names and codes. Having this information written down will serve as a helpful reference when you complete your registration process.
Proceed to Select your modules
First Level Language Choice:
The selection of language options depends on the Home Language indicated on your matric certificate, which you must adhere to. If English is not your Home Language, it becomes the First Additional Language option. If English is your native language, you have the option to select either an “African language” or “Afrikaans” as your primary additional language. Another and next type of language which is additional comes from a different linguistic group than your native language and your chosen first additional language.
Example 1:
The Matric certificate indicates Sepedi as the Home Language. Consequently, Sepedi becomes the Home Language selection. In this way English is then chosen as your first language which is additional.
Example 2:
The Matric certificate indicates English as the Home Language (ENG1515). As such, English is selected as the Home Language. For the First Additional Language, any African language or Afrikaans can be chosen. While choosing a second language which is additional, keep in mind that it should be either Afrikaans or any other South African language.
Example 3:
The Matric certificate indicates Afrikaans as the Home Language.in this case, English will be selected as your first priority additional language and you can choose any other South African language as your next language for the course.
Important Note:
All modules in Group A are mandatory. For either English as the Home Language (Group B) or English as the First Additional Language (Group C), choose ONE module. Moreover, you are only eligible to select ojr type of module from category D. Ensure to carefully follow these guidelines when planning your language module selections for the First Level.
