APPLYING FOR CREDITS FROM OTHER HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS 

UNISA has a policy of recognizing prior learning from previous formal education, but this recognition is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. It’s important to note that not all credits earned at other institutions will be counted towards a Unisa APS qualification.

To request exemption(s), you need to submit a completed online https://www.unisa.ac.za/sites/corporate/default/Register-to-study-through-Unisa/Forms-&-codes along with a certified copy of your official academic record, a conduct certificate, and, in some cases, the syllabus. For international qualifications, both SAQA evaluation and the syllabus are required. It is essential to understand that no exemptions will be finalized based solely on an academic record during the application period.

Additionally, you must fulfill the admission requirements for the qualification in which you are seeking credits and/or exemptions. UNISA has a limit of awarding a maximum of 50% of the prescribed credits through credits and exemptions. However, exemptions will not be granted for UNISA’s signature modules. The minimum APS UNISA varies from college to college and is different for different certifications. 

Following are the APS requirements to apply at UNISA;

  • Bachelors degree with APS 21 Or more
  • A diploma with minimum 18 APS
  • A higher certificate with APS 15. 
  • NSC Pass at minimum APS 14. 

The candidates must have a minimal APS grade in order to get admitted. The number of points required for each subject is calculated by the percentage you scored in a particular subject. The overall points obtained from each class formulate your UNISA APS. Note that these are only the minimum APS and would require more marks according to merit to get admission.  

HOW TO CALCULATE UNISA APS SCORE? 

APS UNISA Calculator basically is the bar that decides whether you get admission in the University of South Africa. In order to get APS, you need to add percentages of 6 best subjects of yours. Generally, the points you get are calculated from the percentage of these subjects. The results below 40% are rejected.

Please Note:

  • Getting the bare minimum APS score UNISA is not always enough to get admission. The merit is decided by the highest marks rankings according to the applications submitted. 
  • For International students to apply at UNISA, you need to have 40 or above marks APS to get admission at UNISA. 
  • The APS is calculated using your matric marks.
  • The life orientation is excluded from APS calculation. 

WHAT IS THE HIGHEST APS? 

The UNISA highest APS is 42. The highest points you can gain against a subject is 7. Because Life Orientation marks are not added, so the APS remains highest as 42.
