Education:

There are two ways to become a certified teacher. The first option is to finish a four-year Bachelor of Education degree at the level of an undergraduate. Rhodes just provides the foundation phase. The second option available at Rhodes is to first complete a three-year Bachelor’s degree in a different faculty, such as the humanities, business, or sciences, and then to cap it off with a one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education.

If you decide to do the degree plus Postgraduate Certificate in Education route, it is highly recommended that you consult with the Faculty of Education about your subject selections before starting your degree to make sure you will eventually become qualified for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education.

  • Bachelor of Education Foundation phase (BEd)

Humanitites:

The Faculty of Humanities provides a top-notch liberal arts education that prepares students for practically any job option as well as for life. Being capable of assessing and analyzing arguments, looking for unstated assumptions, organizing complicated subject matter coherently, understanding other people’s points of view, communicating effectively, dealing with confusion and disorientation, and acknowledging one’s own perceptions of ignorance are all skills that liberal arts education equips students with. Students are exposed to pivotal times in their histories, communities, and personalities through this type of instruction. It enables pupils to appreciate the arts of drama, music, literature, and languages.

There are several different degree options and course pairings available through the Faculty. The Faculty does not offer training but only education. As a result, it equips students with the crucial abilities and traits that are crucial for both their personal and social growth. The aforementioned can all be paired with programs of study that are more instantly focused on a professional life than a liberal arts education. There are particular expertise degrees available in journalism, fine art, and music, but they are all taught in the framework of a general education instead of a technical one.

  • BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE
  • BACHELOR OF FINE ART DEGREE
  • BACHELOR OF JOURNALISM DEGREE

Law:

BACHELOR OF LAWS (LLB)

The LLB degree is the prerequisite education needed to practice law in South Africa. Rhodes University offers a four-year, two-year, or three-year LLB degree program. Students enrolling for the first time in college will rarely choose to enroll in Rhodes’ Faculty of Law. All prospective LLB students enroll in a general degree in a different faculty (Humanities, Science, or Commerce) during their first year, taking two law courses in addition to a few non-law subjects. There are numerous variations and a vast choice of subjects from which students can choose their courses. Students do not choose which path to take until their second year, after gathering enough information to do so.

Pharmacy:

Rhodes University offers a four-year Bachelor of Pharmacy program.  The South African Pharmacy Council has established the course of study for this degree, and all students must pass each course in this curriculum to be given a degree in pharmacy.

Transferring within various Universities or Institutions of Pharmacy in South Africa can be challenging since, while the overall curriculum is specified, each university that offers pharmacy has an entirely distinct focus.

Students are allowed to choose electives in their final year and work on a research project to fulfill some of the criteria for the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree.

Science:

Bachelor of Science (BSc)

The typical first degree is completed over the course of three years, and the flexibility of the BSc is its main selling point. Students can mix classes in a variety of ways to construct curricula that suit their individual interests while staying within the timetable’s constraints. This adaptability entails permitting students to choose a field of study from the humanities, business, and law, allowing them to pursue degrees in geology and economics, biochemistry and law, or environmental science and anthropology. As faculty, we recognize the benefits that can result from giving students considerable latitude in selecting their course of study.

The BSc allows students to build an understanding and ability base that will prepare them for a variety of prospective occupations or further education in their chosen field, rather than educating or training them for a specific career. The focus is on the skills and expertise that are specific to a given subject, along with the general competencies like the design of experiments, data collection, analysis, comprehension, and scientific communication that serve as the foundation for research. Students have the chance to choose whether or not they are drawn to multimodal educational training because of the freedom in curriculum design.
