ACADEMIC LEADER: TEACHING AND LEARNING

(3 YEAR FRACTIONAL APPOINTMENT)

The incumbent will provide academic leadership in Teaching and Learning, including serving as a member of the School Management Committee. S/he will also be responsible for the administrative processes relating to the portfolio, and liaise with the Dean: College Teaching and Learning.

The incumbent will report to the Dean and Head of School.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A relevant doctoral degree.
  • Appointment at the level of senior lecturer or above.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching experience, knowledge, or leadership at the level of appointment.

RE-ADVERTISEMENT HEAD OF RESEARCH 

(FIVE YEAR FIXED TERM) 

The Head of Research is a new position, and the incumbent will implement and provide input into strategies related to research in the School and provide operational direction in all matters research related. The appointee will provide academic leadership as it relates to research and will be responsible for postgraduate training and research capacity development. Additionally, amongst other key functions, he/she will be responsible for coaching, mentoring, and developing the research capacity of staff.  

The Head of Research is the custodian of research in the school, is part of the school leadership and management team, and reports to the Dean of the Graduate School of Business and Leadership.  

Minimum Requirements: 

  • A relevant Doctorate Degree and having held a post at Senior Lecturer level.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant research experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience in postgraduate teaching and/or developing junior staff.
  • A record of excellence in research and publication. 
  • A track record of successful research supervision at all levels. 
  • A track record of securing outside grants. 
  • Where applicable, registration with the appropriate regulatory body.  

Internal candidates will retain their substantive post, to which they will revert at the conclusion of the five-year appointment. A permanent substantive appointment in their academic subject following the conclusion of their contract may serve as the foundation for the hiring of external applicants. The contract may be extended, subject to performance.

DENTAL CLINICAL SUPERVISORS

DISCIPLINE OF DENTISTRY

FIXED-TERM APPOINTMENTS

The School of Health Sciences wishes to appoint two part-time clinical supervisors, one in the B. of Oral Hygiene Program and one in the B. of Dental Therapy for the second semester who will contribute actively towards undergraduate teaching and learning.  The candidates should be Oral Hygienist and Dental Therapist who is required to do clinical supervision and clinical assessments of Oral Hygiene and Dental Therapy students in the various aspects within the scope of practice of the Oral Hygienist and Dental Therapist.   In addition, the candidate will be expected to do tutorials for the students.                    

Minimum Requirements:

  • All applicants must have an appropriate Bachelor’s degree in either B. Oral Hygiene or B. Dental Therapy.
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of appropriate clinical experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of appropriate clinical experience in clinical supervision and clinical assessment of undergraduate dental students.
